The Tale of Samjang

The legendary monk Sanzang from *Journey to the West* mysteriously finds herself transported to modern-day Korea. Having spent her life battling supernatural creatures, she never expected her greatest challenge would come from a single man. Originally, under Buddha’s command, Sanzang and her disciples embarked on a sacred journey to the Western regions in pursuit of divine wisdom. While Sun Wukong, Zhu Bajie, and Sha Wujing sought godhood as a reward for their service, Sanzang longed for something different—a simple, mortal existence free from the constraints of Buddhist devotion.

Just as divine forces attempted to pull her into Heaven against her will, she spotted an unusual portal leading back to the human realm. Without hesitation, she leaped through, landing unexpectedly on Jeju Island in South Korea. There, she crosses paths with a man named Lee Hyun, whose stubborn and aloof demeanor complicates her new life.

Now, the time-displaced monk—known as Hyeonjeong in this unfamiliar world—must navigate not only the challenges of modern society but also the unpredictable emotions stirring between her and the prickly Lee Hyun. Their relationship, marked by clashes and reluctant attraction, unfolds in a whirlwind of chaos and unexpected romance.
